Arizona is in the news again, for all the wrong reasons. The shooting in Tucson was horrible. But contrary to what you're thinking, everyone who lives in Arizona doesn't carry a gun. I don't carry a gun. I don't even own a gun.
Moreover, I've never seen anyone shot. (Except in Tombstone, where they reenact the Wyatt Earp thing several times a day.)
However, during the five years I lived in Tucson, there were several incidents concerning young men using dogs for target practice, and then leaving them to die -- in agony -- in the desert. To my dismay, this didn't really upset many people. Boys would be boys. Besides, the victims were "only" dogs.

This time, the victims were people. Six of them died. (Of course, we're not hearing as much about the dead as about Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, who was one of 14 people who were wounded) There has been much talk blaming this tragedy on the "inflammatory language" that characterizes so much American political debate.
Yet thus far, there's no evidence that the shooter was influenced by the ravings of either the far left or the far right. He seems to have been just another angry young man with a gun, not all that different from the young men who shot those helpless dogs.

Never thought violence would ever touch peace-loving, ever-healing Tucson, Arizona! (Oh, maybe in the Tombstone 19th century cowboy days.) Puzzles me why anyone living in such a perfect, beautiful environment as Tucson would ever do anything so crazy! My heart goes out to the victims and the friends and families of the victims killed and injured in Saturday's tragedy, especially sad about the little girl Christina Green. And, Gail, I worried about you that day knowing you lived in Tucson. Peace be with you, with Tucson, and with little Bao, too.

When I heard the news on TV, I also remembered that You and Bao live there and I really hoped both of you were safe and did not get harmed in this incident !
Here, on the other side of the world, news channels would like us to believe that this young man's actions were solely motivated by someone else's website. I don't know, but if that is the case, I am sure that something is really wrong with this young man's mental health and a shooting or other incident would have happened sooner of later and probably without any "encouragement" from someone or something else. What you write about this shooting of dogs, really makes me sick, I can not understand that human beings are capable of such actions.
Take care !
